trash dump

During this past weekend I drove to the waste management dump in Reno. The Reno dump transfer station is situated right on the river. If you haven't ever been there it is literally 5 feet from our fresh drinking water. I can only imagine what seeps into the ground and flows down to the river. Everything you can think if that you have ever thrown away in your trash. Anything from soda, to bleach to oil from our automobiles. How about antifreeze from our cars and trucks, laundry detergent, who knows what else. I can't imagine a worse place for this location, There are so many places surrounding Reno that are still close enough to keep the trash before it is loaded up to be sent out to the landfill in Lockwood. Even at the Lockwood dump, it is still less than a mile from the river. The local transfer station downtown used to pay you for your recyclables like plastic and cardboard. Apparently they stopped this practice last year due to rising recycling costs, so what they do now is take the product to a different facility to lower costs. I guess this makes sense until the costs of recycling increases more than what you can sell the final product for. Anyway dropped off trash and drove away, thanks again.

Car mile per gallon

There are so many car commercials out there that advertise up to 40 miles per gallon. The average consumer thinks that the car will actually get 40 miles on one gallon of gas. This is far from the truth, To achieve this mpg, the driver will have to drive 55 on the freeway. While keeping the rpms under 3000. I don't know anyone that drives this way in town or even on the freeway. In Reno we have many mountain passes that will force the driver to use more gas to keep speed. Even worse is the New Chevy volt. This car is advertised to get 40 miles on one charge. Many outside testers have gotten between 26 to 76 miles on a fully charged battery. It sucks that these companies can get away with publishing these numbers to the public like they are true facts. With the average commute to work being 45 miles round trip, this car is simply out of the question. Even with these terrible numbers there is still the sticker price for around 40,000 dollars. After government payoffs, down to 33,000 dollars, plus customers will have to buy a charging station for your house. Just the station will cost 3,000 dollars, not including the installation and the testing of the power line in your home and local area. Awesome because many people that live in downtown areas live in apartments or condos, and these places don't have the room and capability for car chargers. Also between 6 and 12 hours for a full charge, I hat waiting 15 minutes for fuel. Can't imagine waiting hours for a charge to get home then charge all night after work. Drive to work and charge at work, where is all this energy coming from, the local coal, nuclear power plants. We are moving the cars exhaust pipe from the bumper to the power plant next to the river.

Cat box

Is there a descent cat box out there? I mean how stupid is the current way to clean out the cat litter box. Ten years from now people will look back to our generation and think we were so stupid for breathing in the ash, for sticking our hands on a shit covered scoop, and bending over to clean it out. How bad is this stuff to breath in our lungs, I have read studies that seem to show that "Cat litter has no effect on human lungs". Bull, these studies are also paid for by the same parent company that runs the countries largest cat litter suppliers. I have always thought about designing a better way to clean out the litter box. I have thought of different ways to install a scoop that is built in the box, where the handle just has to be pushed through the litter instead of scooping the litter. On the end there should be a spot to install a bag to catch the litter that will be placed in the trash. This method will ensure no contact with the litter, and no stirring up the ash from the box. I know there are many companies out there that make the motorized litter boxes but those go for a lot of money. I think the average consumer looking for a new litter box are younger, and lower middle class.

For sale Jeep willys

I am selling my 1951 willys jeep, I need the money to work on backyard. Drive it at least once a week, fun, powerful. Has chevy v6 engine, three speed, 33 inch mud tires. Sucks that I have to sell it, but my loss is your gain. This jeep is a lot of fun in the sand, especially in the really deep loose stuff. I still have not gotten it stuck in the sand. There are some big sand outcroppings behind my house. Before I run the over, I have to get out of the Jeep, lock the front hubs, and switch the setting into four wheel drive. Once it is in 4 wheel drive, The chevy el camino engine turns the 33 inch mud tires so fast , the back seat fills up with sand. The same thing happens in the snow and mud. the tires spin so fast the snow or mud gets thrown everywhere. I always feel bad for the rear passengers because they get covered no matter what they try. It never fails to get really dirty back there. There are many location for storage in this jeep. There is one compartment in the front which I acan ice and beer.

Ride

Went for short ride today on Peavine today, great weather. Riding a new bike and it is very fun, the new bike weights in at 33 ponds. The new bike has a lot more features that I did not have on the last one. There are a lot of lockout adjustments on the fork and the rear shock. The avid disc brakes are now eight inch brakes rotors for increased stopping power. While riding down the Three Trees Trail, the last bike would always be hard to come to a complete stop.  With the bigger rotors and the propedal setting this bike is a lot faster on the flatter sections and way faster in the downhill turns. It is also three pounds lighter which makes it faster uphill. The tires are now 2.35 width tires and allows me to turn more accurate. This combination of lighter bike and stronger brakes also make the bike a lot safer on the long ride in Lake Tahoe. The rim trail is one of those trails that are over 26 long miles. I can ride this bike about fifteen minutes longer on this trail because of these upgrades. So happy with this decision to get the new model.

Call of duty black ops

I just got done playing the new call of duty black ops. I think it was a lot of fun/ The missions were long enough to not get bored but not to long to get fed up and quit. I also liked how there were more vehicles in this game so that there were many more options for firepower. There are a few missions were you can use a helicopter, and also use a tank. Those missions are a lot harder this way with the vehicles, I think the designers are hoping that the players will be very excited about these features and will over look the harder parts of the levels. The one thing I don't like about this game is the fact there are so many more videos and movies. These movies are way too log and take away from the playing time. The movies play a good part in introducing the plots but are longer as the games goes on. There are even a few levels that are nothing but movies, no playing time. Stupid, I didn't buy a movie I bought a game to play. I want a game that will take after the series of Call of Duty games that have been the most popular games in the history of gaming.

Snow is melting fast

The snow is melting very fast up on the backside of Peavine. I usually like to travel up on the backside a few times during the summer. There are many roads and trails to hike and drive on. There are some great places on the backside that don't fell like Peavine, These places include huge aspen trees, and big rocky outcroppings. The aspen trees are great to go hunting and shooting in. there are no roads that got through the trees so] that it is very quiet and no intruders from the sides. It makes it very safe to go shooting in these areas. Last time I was up there in the trees, I chased out a few deer that were grazing in the grass. Pretty cool to see them run away but did startle me and the dog a bit. That was the least of my worries, I have run across deer, antelope and even coyotes in that same area. I worry sometimes when I see something black in the distance, either a bear or large elk. Either one will send me in the other direction or grabbing my firearm on my side. I always carry my shotguna dn my 1911 45.
